On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India is adopting a proactive “look forward” approach in its governance and development strategy. Traditionally, governments have compared their achievements with those of their predecessors, but Modi asserted that from now on, success will be measured by future aspirations rather than past performances. “The focus will be on what we aim to achieve,” he stated, adding that the vision for a developed India by 2047 is integral to this new mindset.
During his remarks at the summit, PM Modi reflected on the challenges faced by the nation over the past five years, including the economic disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, rising prices, and unemployment, alongside conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. He highlighted that amidst this global turmoil, India has emerged as a beacon of hope. “In India, we are discussing the India Century. Despite the challenges, we maintain a sense of positivity,” he remarked.
PM Modi emphasized that India has demonstrated that digital innovation and democratic principles can coexist effectively. He noted that while private companies drove the digital revolution in many nations, the benefits were often limited. “India has provided a new model to the world by democratizing technology and establishing a digital public infrastructure,” he explained.
The Prime Minister also outlined his government’s achievements in the first 125 days of their third term. He cited the construction of approximately 30 million homes for the underprivileged, the initiation of $108 billion worth of infrastructure projects, the operation of 15 new Vande Bharat trains, the launch of 8 new airports, a $24 billion package for youth, and the introduction of health insurance for those over 70.
In discussing the significance of Artificial Intelligence (AI), PM Modi stated that AI represents “Aspirational India.” He highlighted the global importance of AI, declaring that India has begun an AI mission to enhance its implementation across various sectors.
Moreover, he acknowledged the pressing issue of climate change, expressing India’s commitment to addressing it by reducing carbon emissions and advancing green energy initiatives. “While our contribution to the global fight against climate change may seem small, we are actively pursuing solutions,” he said.
