In a notable milestone for India-Bolivia relations, Indian Ambassador Rohit Vadhwana traveled to the Department of Beni in Bolivia, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian envoy to the region. He met Beni Governor Jose Alejandro Unzueta Chiriqui at the Autonomous Departmental Government headquarters in Trinidad, the capital city of Beni. The meeting centered on expanding bilateral engagement and building long-term partnerships.
According to a statement shared by the Indian Embassy in La Paz, discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in agriculture, boosting capacity-building initiatives, and identifying new areas where both regions could collaborate for mutual development. Strengthening livestock development and exploring modern agricultural technologies were among the key topics addressed.
During his visit, Ambassador Vadhwana also met the Mayor of Trinidad, Cristian Camara Arratia. The conversation emphasized shared interests and the desire to deepen friendship between India and the municipality. A symbolic highlight of the visit was the presence of a Mahatma Gandhi bust at the Mayor’s Office, representing the enduring values of peace, harmony, and non-violence that bind the two nations.
In recognition of his visit, the Municipal Council of Trinidad honored Ambassador Vadhwana with the title of “Distinguished Guest.” The embassy extended its gratitude to Council President Martha Yanez Hurtado and Vice President Arnoldo Mendez for the significant acknowledgment, calling it a reflection of the growing warmth between India and Beni.
The ambassador also held a productive meeting with Jesus Eguez Rivero, Rector of the Autonomous University of Jose Ballivian. Their discussions revolved around academic collaborations, exchange opportunities for students and faculty, and expanded training avenues through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program. Both sides expressed interest in increasing educational partnerships and improving capacity-building initiatives within the region.
Another key engagement took place with Jorge Nunez del Prado, President of the Beni Private Business Federation. The meeting explored ways to strengthen commercial linkages, encourage collaboration between Indian and Bolivian industries, and identify potential sectors for investment and technological advancement. Both parties reaffirmed their intention to support sustainable economic growth in Beni.
Concluding the visit, the Indian Embassy extended heartfelt wishes to the people of Beni on their 183rd Anniversary, celebrating the region’s rich heritage and promising future. The embassy reiterated India’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the people of Beni and fostering stronger bilateral cooperation.
