Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Wednesday that diplomacy is the only way to resolve conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. Modi stressed during a press conference in Vienna with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer that in contemporary times, solutions cannot be found through warfare.
Modi’s visit to Austria comes after a two-day trip to Russia, where he was photographed embracing Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In Vienna, Modi indicated that India is prepared to assist Ukraine. He mentioned that he and Nehammer had “extensive discussions” on global conflicts and that both India and Austria are “ready” to “provide all possible support” to “quickly restore peace and stability” in Ukraine. Nehammer noted that both nations share the “common goal” of achieving a “comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, in accordance with the UN Charter.”
Nehammer also stressed the importance of understanding India’s stance on Ukraine and conveying Europe’s concerns.
During his visit, Modi also met with Austrian President Alexander Van Der Bellen. Modi’s trip marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria in 41 years, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. On Thursday, Modi and Nehammer spoke to business executives from both India and Austria.
