During his visit to Seychelles, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan emphasized India’s strong commitment to deepening its historic partnership with the island nation. In a meeting with Seychelles’ newly elected President, Patrick Herminie, at the State House in Victoria, Radhakrishnan reiterated India’s readiness to collaborate closely in areas crucial to Seychelles’ development—including healthcare, education, renewable energy, transportation, and maritime security.
The Vice President extended warm greetings from the Government and people of India to President Herminie and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation for him to visit India at a mutually convenient time. This meeting marked a significant moment in bilateral relations, as both nations prepare to celebrate 50 years of Seychelles’ independence and five decades of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted the symbolic importance of these milestones, expressing confidence that the partnership between India and Seychelles will continue to grow stronger. Earlier in the day, Vice President Radhakrishnan also met Vice President-elect Sebastien Pillay to discuss new avenues for cooperation. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the multifaceted relationship rooted in shared heritage, culture, and strong people-to-people connections.
Radhakrishnan also conveyed his best wishes to Pillay for a successful tenure and later held a brief interaction with Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Chandra Ramgoolam, further emphasizing India’s engagement in the Indian Ocean region.
In a post shared on X, Radhakrishnan expressed his delight at attending President Herminie’s swearing-in ceremony at Unity Stadium in Victoria, noting that he was honored to represent the people and government of India on the occasion.
Addressing members of the Indian community in Seychelles, Radhakrishnan praised the diaspora’s contribution to nurturing the bond between the two nations. He highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s MAHASAGAR vision—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth across Regions—as a guiding principle for India’s maritime partnerships.
Radhakrishnan concluded by emphasizing that Seychelles remains a vital partner in advancing this vision, particularly in promoting regional stability, sustainable development, and the shared priorities of the Global South.
