India stands out as a vibrant hub for global startups and a pivotal market for Google Cloud, according to a senior executive from the company speaking on Wednesday. Matt Renner, President of Global Sales at Google Cloud, emphasized the company’s strategic focus this fiscal year on significantly expanding its investments in startups. He highlighted India among a select group of global markets chosen due to its immense potential and substantial volume of startups.
Renner underscored India’s role as a leading center for innovation in artificial intelligence (AI), noting the proactive strides made by customers in advancing AI applications. Google Cloud, equipped with extensive AI expertise, tools, and a robust track record, aims to collaborate closely with these innovators moving forward.
During his visit to Bengaluru, Renner engaged with twelve startup founders spanning diverse industries, reassuring them of Google Cloud’s support through discounts and credit incentives to facilitate their adoption of its services. Google Cloud operates two major data centers in India, further underscoring its commitment to the region’s burgeoning startup ecosystem.
Following his engagements in Bengaluru, Renner planned to proceed to Mumbai for discussions with customers there, reflecting Google Cloud’s comprehensive approach to engaging with India’s diverse market needs.
In parallel, India is advancing ambitious initiatives to deploy digital public goods (DPG) and digital public infrastructure (DPI) across various domains. Bikram Singh Bedi, Vice President and Country Managing Director at Google Cloud India, highlighted collaborations with the Bengaluru-based EkStep Foundation to explore potential global applications for these solutions, aimed at enhancing user experiences and public service delivery.
Regarding workforce expansion, Google Cloud has intensified efforts to recruit customer-facing personnel and engineers in India. Singh noted the strategic importance of integrating engineering teams with key customers such as HDFC Bank, Jio Platforms, Adani Group, and Mahindra Group, emphasizing the collaborative approach driving business growth.
Renner also highlighted India’s significant role within Google Cloud’s global developer community, with a quarter of its developers based in the country. India ranks second globally on GitHub, the world’s largest developer platform, underscoring its pivotal role in global technology innovation and collaboration.
