On Friday, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced plans for a new international cricket stadium in Hyderabad. This stadium will be located at Begarikancha on the city’s outskirts, where the foundation for Young India Skills University was laid the previous day.
Reddy informed the state Assembly that initial talks about the proposed stadium had already taken place with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He emphasized the state government’s commitment to promoting sports and mentioned that a new sports policy would soon be announced, inspired by Haryana’s sports policy.
For the fiscal year 2024-25, the state has allocated 39.15 million USD for sports. Reddy called on opposition parties to provide suggestions for enhancing sports infrastructure and noted that sports activities have declined at several existing stadiums, including Yousufguda, Gachibowli, Saroornagar, and LB Stadium, the latter being frequently used for political events.
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced that the state cabinet had decided to allocate 600 square yards of house sites each to shooter Esha Singh, two-time world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen, and international cricketer Mohammed Siraj. Furthermore, Group-1 jobs will be offered to Zareen and Siraj, with an educational qualification exemption for Siraj, who has only completed intermediate (Class 12). This exemption aims to encourage and support sportspersons.
In the Assembly on Wednesday, Reddy mentioned that Siraj’s Group-1 job could potentially allow him to become a Deputy Superintendent of Police if he chooses a career in the police force.
