The GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) was the only airport to achieve 90.43 percent on-time performance (OTP) in March of this year, making it the world’s most punctual airport, according to research by aviation analytics firm Cirium.
As the only airport to surpass the 90 percent threshold, Hyderabad’s airport won both the “Global Airports” and “Large Airports” categories of Cirium’s analysis of more than 5 million flights worldwide during the month of March.
In March, Hyderabad’s airport had 14,658 single-segment flights planned among 29 carriers and 77 destinations. Following Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, El Dorado International Airport in Bogota, Colombia, came in second with 86.14 percent OTP.
The first-ever integrated and centralized Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC), as well as contemporary passenger information systems and technology initiatives, are just a few of the first-of-their-kind technical breakthroughs that GHIAL has introduced to the country’s airport industry throughout the years.
No Indian airports made it into the top 20 in the category of medium and small airports. Passenger traffic in the nation is expected to hit an all-time high in 2022, making it one of the aviation sectors with the highest growth rates in the world. India has also built more airports in the past ten years than the majority of other nations worldwide, including both local and international facilities.
