Hindus for America First, a newly established grassroots organisation, has declared its support for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and will initiate a campaign against Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in key battleground states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina. The announcement was made on Thursday by Utsav Sanduja, the organisation’s chairman and founder, who expressed concerns that Harris could be “very destabilising for Indo-US relations.”
Sanduja argued that if Kamala Harris were to become president, she might appoint liberal judges who could potentially reverse Supreme Court decisions affecting Asian-American voters. He criticised the Biden-Harris administration for failing to secure the border, noting that Harris, as Vice President, has not addressed the issue of illegal immigration effectively. According to Sanduja, this failure has led to increased crime and drug smuggling, which disproportionately affects minority communities, including Asian-American business owners.
In contrast, Sanduja praised Trump for his efforts to reform the immigration system to be more merit-based and for strengthening defence and technology partnerships with India. He highlighted Trump’s strong pro-India stance and successful collaboration with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on various defence projects aimed at countering China. Sanduja emphasised that Trump did not interfere in India’s internal affairs, unlike Harris, who has made disparaging remarks about India.
Hindus for America First is mobilising support among Hindus in battleground states such as Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada to oppose Harris. Sanduja highlighted the global Hindu community’s concern over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and urged political leaders to take action on these matters. He commended Trump for recognizing the persecution of Hindus in regions like Afghanistan and Pakistan, stating that Trump’s administration was pivotal in acknowledging Hindu genocide.
