Amidst the escalating unrest in Bangladesh, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has issued a fervent appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prioritize the safety and security of the Hindu community and their places of worship. The organization has further called for robust diplomatic action, including a formal complaint to the United Nations, to address the deteriorating situation.
In a strongly worded statement, HJS National Spokesperson Ramesh Shinde expressed grave concern over the escalating violence, which he characterized as a transition from anti-government protests to targeted attacks against the Hindu minority. Shinde painted a grim picture of the situation, highlighting incidents of killings, assaults on homes and businesses, desecration of temples, and sexual violence against Hindu women. This, he asserted, has instilled a deep sense of fear within the Hindu community.
To mitigate the crisis, the HJS has presented a series of urgent demands. Chief among these is a directive to the Bangladesh Army to cease all forms of aggression against Hindus and their property, including the protection of temples and religious idols. The organization has also called for the immediate relocation of displaced Hindus to secure areas, coupled with the provision of essential security measures and compensation for losses incurred.
Shinde emphasized the need for India to take a proactive stance on the international stage by raising the issue at the United Nations and facilitating a fact-finding mission to Bangladesh. Additionally, he urged the Indian government to expedite the process of granting asylum to Hindu refugees under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
Highlighting the potential for increased infiltration of extremist elements into India, Shinde underscored the urgency of addressing the ongoing influx of Bangladeshi citizens. He warned that the current political turmoil could serve as a catalyst for the entry of radical Jihadi groups, potentially aided by domestic sympathizers.
The HJS’s statement underscores the growing apprehension over the plight of the Hindu minority in Bangladesh and serves as a call to action for the Indian government to provide both humanitarian and diplomatic support.
