Hetal Doshi’s campaign for Colorado attorney general is gaining early momentum, marked by a high-profile endorsement and record-breaking fundraising. The Indian American Impact Fund, a prominent group supporting candidates of South Asian heritage, has formally backed Doshi, calling her a proven advocate for justice and working families.
A first-generation American with more than twenty years of legal experience, Doshi says she entered the race because of the ongoing threats facing democratic institutions. She stresses the need to protect Colorado’s tradition of pushing back against federal overreach while expanding the attorney general’s role to strengthen consumer protections and promote economic fairness. “We have to think about the future beyond Trump,” she explained, outlining her vision for the office.
Her campaign, launched on June 5, quickly made history. Within just 24 hours, Doshi raised $265,000 — the largest opening-day fundraising total for any state-level candidate in Colorado’s history. If successful, she would become the first South Asian to serve as attorney general in the state.
Doshi often draws inspiration from her parents, who immigrated from India seeking opportunity in America. She shares their story on the campaign trail, noting that the struggles of working families today push her to fight for fairness, safety, and dignity for all Coloradans.
Her legal background reflects that commitment. Doshi began as a federal prosecutor in Colorado, handling fraud, corruption, and civil rights cases. Later, as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division, she helped lead lawsuits against corporate giants like Google, Apple, and Ticketmaster, which she argues manipulated the system at the expense of ordinary people.
Indian American Impact Fund executive director Chintan Patel praised her record, stating, “Hetal Doshi is the fighter Colorado needs. She has taken on corruption and some of the largest corporations in the country to deliver results.”
The 2026 attorney general race will be wide open, with current Attorney General Phil Weiser term-limited and running for governor. Doshi faces a competitive Democratic primary, while only one Republican has declared so far.
Outside her legal career, Doshi enjoys live music, dance, and visiting local distilleries. She and her husband Andrew live in Denver with their dog, Zuri. She holds a law degree from the University of Virginia and a bachelor’s from Emory University.
