The City of Raleigh has officially named Het Patel as the new Assistant Director of Transit, effective June 28. This significant leadership appointment follows Patel’s six years of dedicated service in the city’s Transportation Department, where he has played a pivotal role in shaping and guiding Raleigh’s growing transit network.
Patel initially joined the city as a Senior Transit Planner and quickly rose to become the Transit Planning Supervisor. Throughout this period, he was instrumental in supporting major initiatives, helping the city navigate through a time of rapid transit expansion and transformation. His appointment fills the role previously held by David Eatman, who served in the position for six years.
Stepping into this vital role, Patel expressed both gratitude and commitment to continuing the mission of public service. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to take a leadership role within the organization and continue to make a difference in providing safe, reliable, and accessible transportation options for the community,” he shared.
As the new Assistant Director, Patel will report to Paul Kallam, the Director of Transportation, and will be stationed at the Raleigh Union Station — one of the city’s most significant transit hubs. His leadership is expected to be key in helping the city adapt to increasing demand and the complexities of modern urban mobility.
Transportation Director Paul Kallam praised the appointment, saying, “I’m pleased to welcome Het to this new leadership position. He brings a strong sense of collaboration, problem-solving, and vision to our team. Raleigh is growing fast, and Het’s leadership will help our transit division rise to meet the needs of our community.”
Patel’s promotion reflects the city’s commitment to recognizing internal talent and fostering leadership from within. His years of experience, combined with a collaborative leadership style and passion for accessible transit, position him to steer Raleigh’s transportation system into a more connected and sustainable future.
