Two Indian Americans featured on Forbes’ 100 most powerful women in the world 2023 list are US Vice President Kamala Harris and Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria. The list spans various industries such as technology, banking, media, entertainment, politics, and philanthropy.
US Vice President Kamala Harris, ranking third for the second consecutive year, is recognized for her contributions to politics and policy. Harris made history as the first woman, first Black person, and first South Asian-American to become Vice President on January 20, 2021. Born to Indian parents, she grew up in Oakland, California, achieving milestones in her career.
Bela Bajaria secured the 67th position under the media and entertainment category. Born in London, she moved to Los Angeles at the age of 8. Appointed Netflix’s chief content officer in January 2023, she oversees globally distributed series like Lupin, Bridgerton, and Cobra Kai.
Forbes also featured four Indian women in its list of the 100 most powerful women globally. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman ranked 32 in politics and policy, HCL Technologies chairperson Roshni Nadar Malhotra at 60 in technology, Soma Mondal, CEO of the Steel Authority of India, at 70 in business, and entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw at 76 in business.
