On Thursday, Oscar-winning director Guneet Monga stated that she never supports a movie with the goal of taking home a prize. Producing “The Elephant Whisperers” by Kartiki Gonsalves, which in March received the Academy Award for best documentary short subject, is all about being faithful to the narrative, according to Monga.
“Every film has its own journey. You never make content for an award; you just make a piece of cinema because you love the story. When you tell a story through the long format, with the number of years it takes to make the film, you have to fall in love with it every day. It is a labor of love of three to four years that you will see eventually,” she told the reporters.
Speaking at the “Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery” press conference, the producer was promoting her future movie. The investigative satirical comedy, which stars Sanya Malhotra, will debut on Netflix on May 19. Monga called “Kathal” a “special” movie and asserted that no one has any influence over prizes or accolades.
She said, “To speak the truth, all we can do is get up every morning and tell the truth about the tale we are presenting.” The producer, whose credits include the Malhotra-starring films “Pagglait,” “The Lunchbox,” and “Soorarai Pottru,” said she never takes the audience for granted.
