In a tribute to the heroism and collective strength displayed during Operation Sindoor, the Gujarat government has unveiled plans to establish Sindoor Van, a dedicated memorial park. This unique initiative will rise in Mirzapar, within the Kutch district, located close to the India-Pakistan border — a region heavily affected by aerial drone and missile assaults during the operation.
As per The Indian Express, Kutch Collector Anand Patel stated that Sindoor Van will symbolize the unity shown by civilians, the Indian Army, Air Force, BSF, and other national forces during the military action. The Gujarat forest department will lead the project, converting eight hectares of government land along the Bhuj-Mandvi road into a dense green shield or “van kavach.”
Notably, the proposed site was also the location where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the public on his first Gujarat visit following the operation. At the event, women from Madhapar—who had aided the Air Force in the 1971 Indo-Pak war—gifted the Prime Minister a sindoor plant. He vowed to nurture it into a banyan tree at his residence, symbolizing enduring strength and resilience.
Sandeep Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests (Kutch Circle), shared that Sindoor Van will be designed thematically around Operation Sindoor. The park will feature dedicated zones for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and BSF, incorporating about 35 native plant species at a density of 10,000 plants per hectare. The initiative seeks to blend ecological restoration with a narrative that honours the forces involved.
To immerse visitors in the significance of the operation, the park will feature murals and dioramas showcasing aircraft, drones, and other equipment used during the conflict. It will also memorialize victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which tragically claimed three lives from Gujarat.
BSF Inspector General Abhishek Pathak highlighted the region’s critical role, stating that nearly 40% of over 600 enemy drones and missiles launched during Operation Sindoor were intercepted in the Bhuj sector alone.
Sindoor Van in Gujarat is more than a memorial — it’s a space where bravery, sacrifice, and nature converge, honouring India’s stand against terror and collective unity.
