The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin – Connecticut Chapter (GOPIO-CT) recently organized an impactful event called ‘College and Beyond’ at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Stamford, Connecticut. Aimed at high school and college students, as well as young professionals, the event, coordinated by GOPIO-CT Board Member Nandu Kuppuswamy, saw full attendance and featured a diverse panel of speakers.
The panel, moderated by Kuppuswamy, included professionals from various fields. The goal was to guide high school students through the college admissions process, help with the transition from high school to college, and offer insights into leveraging academic and non-academic opportunities for career success.
Panelists covered a range of topics, from hiring trends to the importance of technological literacy. They emphasized the significance of qualifications beyond degrees, highlighted the critical role of networking, and reassured high school students about the college selection process. The discussion covered finding a college that fits one’s personality, the differentiation in effort and benefits from college resources, and self-promotion for admissions and career development.
GOPIO officials, including Chairman Dr. Thomas Abraham and President Dr. Jaya Daptardar, graced the event. Dr. Daptardar encouraged youth involvement in GOPIO-CT activities, and Dr. Abraham spoke about GOPIO International and its community service initiatives. The successful event exemplified GOPIO-CT’s dedication to supporting educational and professional development in the Indian American community.
For 18 years, GOPIO-CT has been an active chapter hosting interactive sessions, community events, youth mentoring, and networking workshops. As a non-partisan organization, GOPIO-CT promotes Indian culture and contributions through community programs and fosters dialogue with local communities.
