On Tuesday, Elon Musk criticized Google for displaying results related to Kamala Harris when users searched for Donald Trump. This followed Musk’s previous day’s concern about the lack of search results on an assassination attempt on Trump.
The Tesla CEO took to X, sharing posts where users expressed frustration about finding news on US presidential candidate Kamala Harris instead of Donald Trump. One user shared a screenshot of a Google News search for “Donald Trump,” which had been altered to “Harris, Donald Trump,” resulting in news favoring Harris over Trump.
After media coverage of this issue, search results changed to display “news about Elon Musk” when searching for Donald Trump. Musk found this development “crazy,” suggesting that the search engine might be censoring news about Trump as the US presidential elections approach in November. He further highlighted another post where a user claimed Google only showed positive prompts for “why censorship is.”
On Monday, Musk shared posts alleging that Google was not showing results about an assassination attempt on Trump that left him with an injured right ear. Responding to a user who suggested Google was controlled by Democrats, Musk warned that interfering with the election could cause significant trouble for the company.
In response to these allegations, a Google spokesperson told Fox News that no “manual actions” were taken to alter search predictions, emphasizing that the search engine is designed to “help people save time” while allowing users to search for anything they want.
