United States Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, highlighted the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the United States in strengthening India-US relations and transforming aspirations into reality. Speaking at the “Peace, Prosperity, Planet, People: A New Chapter in U.S.-India Relations” event jointly organized by the Asia Society Policy Institute and IIT Delhi, Garcetti emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to promote peace, prosperity, and environmental sustainability, while also fostering security and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
He described the visit as a historic moment, celebrating the defining partnership of the century between the two vibrant democracies. The Ambassador commended the joint initiatives announced during the visit across various sectors, believing they have the potential to make a global impact. One of his favorite moments was the presentation by IIT Delhi scholar, Anchal Sharma, alongside PM Modi and First Lady Jill Biden at the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Garcetti recognized the shared dreams and aspirations of the Indian and American people, emphasizing the importance of the Indian diaspora in the US in promoting friendship and understanding between the countries. He highlighted the substantial number of Indian students studying in the US, the significant two-way trade volume, and the contribution of Indian professionals to key sectors of the US economy.
The Ambassador also discussed the significance of visa policies in the US-India relationship, aiming to process at least one million visas in 2023, acknowledging the impact of such opportunities on individuals’ lives. Having completed his studies in India, Garcetti expressed his personal connection to the country, and his goal as an Ambassador is to provide similar life-changing experiences to others.
He concluded by emphasizing that India and the USA are like two sides of the same coin, and he aspires to witness the countries collaboratively addressing challenges and bringing transformative changes together.
