India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, is scheduled to visit Washington from April 8 to 10, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The visit aims to review the full spectrum of India-US relations and further strengthen ongoing collaboration across key sectors.
During his three-day trip, Misri will engage with senior US officials to discuss a wide range of issues, including trade, defence, science, technology, and significant regional and global developments of mutual interest. The visit is a continuation of high-level exchanges between the two countries, following External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s trip to the United States in February.
Jaishankar’s February 2-4 visit included participation in the Critical Minerals Ministerial convened by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Reflecting on the visit, Jaishankar noted that it was “productive and positive,” highlighting a strong momentum in India-US engagement. He thanked Secretary Rubio for the warm hospitality and emphasized that a historic India-US trade deal is nearing completion, which could usher in a new phase in bilateral relations with significant opportunities.
The External Affairs Minister also confirmed rapid progress in critical mineral cooperation and projected that upcoming engagements will cover strategic issues, defence, and energy. During his US visit, Jaishankar held extensive discussions with key administration officials, including separate meetings with Secretary Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. These meetings focused on strengthening India-US strategic and economic partnerships, addressing trade, energy, nuclear, defence, critical minerals, and technology collaboration.
Both sides agreed to expedite follow-up engagements, including early meetings of various bilateral mechanisms to advance shared interests. Misri’s upcoming visit is expected to build on this momentum, enabling focused discussions that reinforce the India-US relationship and advance cooperation in critical sectors. The visit underscores the growing significance of India-US ties, reflecting continued efforts to deepen economic, strategic, and technological partnerships between the two democracies.
