India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has arrived in Washington for a three-day visit aimed at reinforcing the expanding partnership between India and the United States. The visit focuses on reviewing the overall relationship while advancing cooperation across critical sectors such as trade, defence, and technology. His trip reflects the continued commitment of both countries to deepen engagement and align on shared priorities.
Upon reaching the US capital, Misri was welcomed by India’s Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra, who highlighted that the visit provides an important opportunity to engage with American counterparts on key aspects of the bilateral agenda. Discussions are expected to cover a broad spectrum, including economic collaboration, security cooperation, and evolving regional and global developments that impact both nations.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs has stated that the visit is intended to assess the full scope of bilateral relations and push forward ongoing initiatives. During his stay, Misri will meet senior officials from the US administration to deliberate on matters related to trade, defence strategy, science, and technological advancement. These conversations are expected to strengthen cooperation frameworks valued in millions of dollars and enhance long-term strategic alignment.
The visit comes shortly after External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s earlier trip to Washington, which helped build strong momentum in bilateral ties. He had indicated that a major trade agreement, estimated in millions of dollars, is in its final stages and is likely to unlock new economic opportunities for both countries. This development signals a new phase in India-US relations with expanded potential across industries.
During his previous visit, Jaishankar also participated in a high-level meeting on critical minerals hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The discussions emphasized the growing importance of resource security and cooperation in sectors linked to energy and advanced manufacturing, with investments running into millions of dollars.
Additionally, Jaishankar held discussions with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, focusing on strengthening economic and strategic cooperation. Key areas included trade, defence, nuclear collaboration, and emerging technologies. Both sides agreed to accelerate follow-up engagements through structured dialogues, reflecting a shared intent to sustain momentum and deepen their partnership further.
