Four Indian Americans are part of a diverse group of 188 culture creators chosen for Guggenheim Fellowships by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Selected based on career achievements and potential, they span various disciplines.
The Indian American recipients include Hari Krishnan (Choreography), Vivek K. Goyal (Engineering), Sonia Shah (General Nonfiction), and Nita Kumar (South & Southeast Asian Studies).
Established in 1925, the Guggenheim Fellowship provides recipients with a stipend to pursue independent work. Edward Hirsch, president of the foundation, emphasizes its role in supporting distinguished artists, scholars, and visionaries.
Each awardee receives support to pursue their work under “the freest possible conditions.” Recipients are selected through a rigorous process from thousands of applicants, reflecting their prior achievements and future potential.
The Indian American recipients are accomplished in their respective fields, contributing to diverse areas such as choreography, engineering, nonfiction writing, and Asian studies. Their work spans a wide range of topics, from dance exploration to scientific research and literary criticism.
