On Monday, Eric Garcetti, the US Ambassador to India, extended his Holi wishes through X (formerly Twitter), recounting his first-hand encounter with the colorful festival in India.
Expressing his delight, Garcetti emphasized the blend of customs and the camaraderie between the United States and India. He shared his joy at partaking in the cultural spectacle firsthand.
Garcetti shared on social media, “#HappyHoli! Embracing my inaugural Holi in India, enjoying scrumptious gujiyas with American nuts—a delightful blend of customs, celebrating #USIndiaDosti!” He underscored the unparalleled experience of celebrating Holi in India compared to Los Angeles.
Accompanying his message was a video showcasing Gujiyas, a sweet treat with an American twist, featuring pistachios and rose water—a symbolic gesture of Indo-US unity during Holi.
Garcetti’s focus on food symbolizes the deeper connection between the two nations. Earlier, on March 8, he inaugurated the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) Taste of America Booth at Bharat Mandapam, stressing the economic and culinary ties between India and the US.
As a seasoned politician and former Mayor of Los Angeles, Garcetti’s bipartisan confirmation in March last year as the US Ambassador to India highlights his diplomatic prowess.
Holi, a celebration of spring’s arrival, is being joyously observed nationwide, marked by the traditional play of gulal (colored powder), each region adding its unique flair to the festivities.
