The Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) is proud to present the 17th Annual Erasing Borders Dance Festival in New York City on September 20 and 21, 2025, at 6 PM. Taking place at the Ailey Citigroup Theater on 405 W 55th St, this two-day celebration of Indian classical and contemporary dance showcases globally recognized artists. Tickets begin at $25 and are available at iaac.us.
The festival kicks off on Saturday, September 20, with an exciting lineup: Bharatanatyam student dancers from Nrithyanjali School (led by Ramya Ramnarayan), an Odissi solo by Trina Sarkar, Kuchipudi by Kalanidhi, Kathak by Chitresh Das Dance Company, and a solo performance by renowned Bharatanatyam artist Priyadarsini Govind.
On Sunday, September 21, the stage will come alive with the Odissi Dance Company (mentored by Aparupa Chatterjee), a Kuchipudi solo from Pranamya Suri, contemporary group choreography by Rovaco Dance Company (Rohan Bhargava), a modern solo by Preeti Vasudevan, and a grand finale featuring a Bharatanatyam trio led by legend Rama Vaidyanathan, joined by Sannidhi and Dakshina.
Beyond performances, on September 18 at 6 PM, the New York Public Library’s Bruno Walter Auditorium will host a conversation with Priyadarsini Govind, offering deep insights into abhinaya, the emotive storytelling aspect of Bharatanatyam. She’ll reflect on her training under the iconic Kalanidhi Narayanan, honoring the Dr. Sunil Kothari Honorary Lecture Series.
Additionally, on September 22, some artists will engage with students at Barnard College in a panel moderated by senior curator and professor Uttara Coorlawala.
From timeless traditions to cutting-edge choreography, Erasing Borders celebrates the diversity and depth of Indian dance. With cultural powerhouses like Govind and Vaidyanathan gracing the stage, this year’s event promises an unforgettable artistic journey bridging continents and communities.
The IAAC continues its mission to support Indian arts and artists across North America, creating platforms that transcend borders, styles, and generations.
