Research by ServiceNow highlights that emerging technologies are set to significantly expand India’s job market, with an estimated 2.73 million new tech jobs anticipated by 2028. This growth is part of an overall increase in India’s workforce, projected to expand from 423.73 million in 2023 to 457.62 million by 2028—a net addition of 33.89 million workers.
The retail sector is expected to lead this employment surge, adding 6.96 million jobs, followed by the manufacturing sector with 1.5 million, education with 0.84 million, and healthcare with 0.8 million. This rise in job opportunities is driven by India’s economic expansion and ongoing advances in technology.
Tech roles are on the rise across industries, especially in fields like Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services, Manufacturing, and Telecommunications. Software Application Developers are anticipated to see the largest increase with 109,700 new jobs, while Systems Software Developers and Data Engineers are expected to gain 48,800 and 48,500 roles, respectively. Additional roles like Web Developers, Data Analysts, and Software Testers are also predicted to grow, with up to 48,500 new positions each.
The adoption of Generative AI is transforming these tech roles, with tasks for positions like Systems Administrators and AI Systems Engineers becoming increasingly automated to boost efficiency. To support the evolving needs of the tech economy, initiatives like ServiceNow’s ‘RiseUp with ServiceNow’ are addressing the skills gap, equipping India’s workforce for global tech demands.
