Dr. Jagdish K. Gupta was honored with the prestigious President Gold Medal by the Medical Society of the County of Kings (MSCK), the oldest scientific organization in Brooklyn. This recognition marked his induction into the elite president club during the 174th president’s dinner at Dyker Beach Golf Club, part of MSCK’s bicentennial year celebrations. Simultaneously, Dr. Gupta’s wife, Meena Gupta, was bestowed with the Golden Charm as the 174th First Lady.
Dr. Madhu Gudavalli, MSCK’s president, welcomed Dr. Gupta as the guest of honor, who also presides over the Association of Indians in America – NY chapter. Fourteen past MSCK presidents, along with Dr. Parag Mehta, a former president of the Medical Society of the State, were invited to present the President Gold Medal to Dr. Gupta.
Dr. Robert Frankle, Chairman of the Board of the Medical Society of the State of New York, presented the award plaque. Additional citations were granted by Dr. Lance Austein and Dr. Donald Moore, former presidents of MSCK. Assemblyman Lester Chang and NYS Senator Andrew Gounardes facilitated these recognitions.
Reflecting on the occasion, Dr. Gupta highlighted the significance of MSCK’s bicentennial year, emphasizing the organization’s two centuries of advocacy, commitment, and patient care. MSCK celebrated its centennial on May 25, 2022, as proclaimed by the state assembly and city council.
Dr. Neeraj Acharya, former MSCK president and treasurer, oversaw the celebrations organized by Dr. Sherman Dunn, the MSCK Board Chairman, and Dr. Gudavalli, the current president. Dr. Sanjiv Chopra delivered a keynote speech titled “Reflections on Lasting Happiness and Living with Purpose,” receiving a standing ovation. Dr. Moore, a county historian, curated an exhibition for the occasion. The festivities included a cake-cutting ceremony, uniting past MSCK presidents and distinguished guests with Dr. Jagdish Gupta, commemorating his induction into the board of trustees of the Academy of Medicine of Brooklyn.
