Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Egypt’s highest state honor, the “Order of the Nile,” on June 25. Established in 1915, this prestigious award is bestowed upon Heads of States, Crown Princes, and Vice-Presidents who have made invaluable contributions to Egypt or humanity. This marks the 13th such highest state honor conferred upon PM Modi by various countries worldwide.
The “Order of the Nile” is a pure gold collar composed of three square gold units featuring Pharaonic symbols. The first unit symbolizes protection against evil, the second represents the prosperity and happiness brought by the Nile, and the third signifies wealth and endurance. These units are interconnected by a circular gold flower adorned with turquoise and ruby. The collar also includes a hexagonal pendant embellished with Pharaonic-style flowers, turquoise, and ruby gems. In the center of the pendant, there is a prominent symbol representing the Nile, uniting the North (symbolized by the Papyrus) and the South (symbolized by the Lotus).
In addition to the “Order of the Nile,” Prime Minister Modi has received numerous international awards, including the Companion of the Order of Logohu from Papua New Guinea, the Companion of the Order of Fiji, and the Ebakl Award from the Republic of Palau, all awarded in May 2023. Other notable awards include the Order of the Druk Gyalpo from Bhutan in December 2021, the Legion of Merit from the U.S. Government in 2020, and the King Hamad Order of the Renaissance from Bahrain in 2019.
During his visit to Egypt, Prime Minister Modi held discussions with President El-Sisi on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries. The discussions focused on enhancing trade, investments, energy cooperation, and people-to-people connections. President El-Sisi warmly welcomed PM Modi, who was on a two-day state visit to Egypt following his successful visit to the United States. The Indian Prime Minister also met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and a high-level ministerial delegation, aimed at further improving bilateral relations.
This visit to Egypt holds significance as President El-Sisi was the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi earlier this year, where both leaders decided to elevate the bilateral relationship to the level of a strategic partnership.
