External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong held discussions on enhancing collaboration in various sectors including fintech, digitalization, green economy, skills development, and food security.
Jaishankar wrapped up his official visit to Singapore on March 25th, which marked the first leg of his tour to Singapore, Philippines, and Malaysia. During his stay, he met with PM Lee Hsien Loong and Lawrence Wong, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, to explore avenues for deeper engagement in the identified areas of cooperation.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that Jaishankar engaged in numerous bilateral meetings with Singapore’s leadership and senior ministers, including Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security. Discussions also encompassed comprehensive talks with Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, covering bilateral, regional, and global issues.
Moreover, Jaishankar had a productive session with Gan Kim Yong, Minister of Trade & Industry, focusing on bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, green energy, and food security. Discussions with K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, revolved around strengthening bilateral partnership.
While in Singapore, Jaishankar honored Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the INA marker, connected with the Indian community, and participated in an ISAS event, engaging with think tanks and policymakers.
The visit served as an opportunity to further deepen the Strategic Partnership between India and Singapore and assess progress in various areas of cooperation. Additionally, Singapore’s role as the current country coordinator for India at ASEAN and its participation as a Guest Country during India’s Presidency of the G20 in 2023 were emphasized by the Ministry of External Affairs.
