Dr. Sai Yendamuri, a prominent name in surgical oncology, has been elected to the American Surgical Association (ASA) — the oldest and most respected body of its kind in the United States. This honor marks a major milestone in Dr. Yendamuri’s distinguished career and reflects his commitment to pushing the boundaries of modern surgical care.
Currently serving as the Chief Strategy Officer and Chair of Thoracic Surgery at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York, Dr. Yendamuri also directs the Thoracic Surgery Laboratory. He holds a faculty position as Professor of Surgery at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo.
Dr. Yendamuri has played a transformative role at Roswell Park since joining the institution in 2007, following advanced surgical training at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Originally from India, he earned his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and later an executive MBA from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.
Beyond his hospital roles, he serves as President and CEO of RPCI Oncology P.C., overseeing Roswell Park’s expanding Care Network, which delivers high-quality cancer services to communities throughout New York State. Launched in 2019, the network brings cutting-edge treatments closer to home for millions across the region.
Dr. Yendamuri’s research, particularly in lung cancer interception, has received continuous funding from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for more than 14 years. His academic contributions include over 200 peer-reviewed publications, and in 2023, he received two major honors: a Surgical Leaders Fellowship Grant from ASA and the Society of Asian Academic Surgeons, and a Presidential Service Award from the Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society.
He will be formally introduced as a Fellow during the ASA’s 2026 Annual Meeting. Admission into the ASA is highly selective, involving a rigorous 13-month evaluation by an advisory membership committee.
Founded in 1880, the American Surgical Association continues to lead the way in surgical research and education, counting among its members the most accomplished surgeons in the nation.
