Dr. Prem Reddy, an Indian-American physician, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, was recently honored with the Healthcare Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) in the United States. The award ceremony took place in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and was attended by prominent figures, including Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
The IACC bestowed this prestigious recognition upon Dr. Reddy in acknowledgment of his visionary leadership, which has played a pivotal role in the revitalization and enhancement of hospitals across the nation. Some notable examples include Garden City Hospital in Garden City and Lake Huron Medical Center in Port Huron, Michigan, among others.
Dr. Reddy, who serves as the chairman, president, and chief executive officer (CEO) of Prime Healthcare, received this honor during the IACC Annual Mixer, where Governor Whitmer expressed her appreciation for his contributions. She commended Dr. Reddy as an integral part of Michigan’s Indian American community, highlighting the community’s diverse talents and significant economic impact on the state.
Sanju George, the Region V CEO of Prime Healthcare, also expressed gratitude for Dr. Reddy’s foresight and unwavering determination. He emphasized how Prime hospitals in Michigan benefit from being part of a nationwide health system, tailored to meet the unique needs of patients and their families.
Dr. Prem Reddy’s journey began in the Nellore district of India in 1948. He graduated from Sri Venkateswara Medical College in 1973 before immigrating to the United States. A cardiologist by profession, he founded Prime Healthcare Services Inc. in 2001, and under his leadership, the organization now oversees 45 hospitals.
In addition to his medical achievements, Dr. Reddy holds fellowships with the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is also renowned for his philanthropic endeavors, having established two non-profits: the Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation and the Prime Healthcare Foundation.
In 2018, Dr. Reddy established CUSM, a non-profit medical institution situated in Southern California. His generous contributions of $80 million to CUSM and his role as the chairman of its board underscore his commitment to medical education and innovation.
Moreover, in 2021, Dr. Reddy assumed the role of FAH board chairman, highlighting his leadership in the healthcare sector. Throughout his career, he has received multiple accolades. In 2023, he was honored with the AAPI Presidential Appreciation and Achievement Award. Additionally, he has been recognized with the NATA Lifetime Achievement Award and the Bernard Osher Philanthropists of the Year award.
