The Association of Indians in America (AIA) honored Dr. Nirmal Mattoo with its esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award during its Annual Medical Council Awards Gala. The high-profile event took place at the prestigious Cipriani venue in New York and was attended by over 300 distinguished guests.
Dr. Mattoo, known for his long-standing service and commitment to the Indian-American community, was recognized for his impactful contributions to medicine and public service in the United States. The evening also celebrated the accomplishments of four rising physicians who were commended for their innovation and dedication in the healthcare field.
Founded in 1967, the AIA stands as the oldest and largest Indian-origin organization in the U.S., dedicated to promoting social advancement and helping Indian immigrants assimilate into mainstream American life. It operates under democratic values of “one member, one vote” and has active chapters nationwide.
AIA President Mr. Gobind Munjal, who once led the prominent New York chapter, played a vital role in expanding the organization’s community outreach. Under his leadership, AIA hosted one of America’s earliest Diwali celebrations and emerged as a key donor of medical supplies to India during the COVID-19 crisis.
Rooted in the ideals of cultural unity and civic engagement, AIA continues to serve as a beacon for Indian immigrants seeking to contribute meaningfully to the American landscape. The gala not only highlighted decades of service by stalwarts like Dr. Mattoo but also spotlighted the next generation of doctors shaping the future of healthcare in the US.
