As the Diwali festivities draw closer, markets across India, particularly in Delhi, are bracing for an impressive shopping surge, with total sales expected to reach approximately $50.57 billion (Rs 4.25 trillion). Delhi is anticipated to contribute around $8.92 billion (Rs 75,000 crore) to this festive turnover. Following the successful celebrations of Raksha Bandhan, Navratri, and Karva Chauth, merchants are going all out to attract customers by presenting lavish decorations, festive lighting, and an extensive range of discounts and offers.
Mr. Praveen Khandelwal, a Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk and Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), emphasized the extensive preparations underway, noting, “Grand preparations are underway across the national capital and other parts of the country for Diwali and the festive season.” Markets are set to be vibrant with lights, rangolis, and Diwali-themed adornments, creating a festive environment for shoppers in metropolitan areas, Tier-II and Tier-III cities, as well as towns and villages.
Traders are diligently stocking various Diwali essentials, including gifts, jewelry, electronics, clothing, home decor, and puja supplies. Mr. Khandelwal pointed out the wide variety of products available, stating that “gift items, clothing, jewelry, electronics, mobile phones, furnishings, decor items, puja materials, rangoli supplies, idols and pictures of deities, ready-made garments, toys, food items, confectionery, electrical goods, and consumer durables” are all in ample supply to meet the anticipated demand.
CAIT National President Mr. B C Bhartia added that special promotions, such as ‘Buy One-Get One’ offers and exclusive discounts for Diwali, will further entice customers. To manage the expected influx of shoppers, traders are also implementing safety measures to ensure a smooth and enjoyable shopping experience during the festive season.
