Disney World Resort transformed into a cultural spectacle earlier this month as the Diwali Dance Fest returned with over 300 dancers showcasing the vibrant spirit of India’s festival of lights. Organized by Jashn Productions, the event took place from November 7 to 10 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park in Florida.
Jeanie Beri, founder of Jashn Productions, directed the festivities, which included three energetic days filled with a parade and a dynamic three-hour dance showcase. Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, which gave young performers a global platform, Beri aimed to make this year’s festival even more memorable. She emphasized the importance of providing opportunities for the next generation while fostering community and inclusivity.
The celebration began at EET, an Indian-inspired restaurant at Disney Springs, hosted by celebrity Chef Maneet Chauhan. A special parade followed, with dancers performing a 20-minute routine for a captivated audience. Disney characters joined the festivities, along with children with special needs sponsored by the SKN Foundation, adding a heartfelt touch to the occasion.
The event culminated with the signature Dance Fest Showcase at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, featuring 17 dance schools representing diverse regions of India. Performances blended pop, hip-hop, and classical Indian dance forms. Special acts included BFunk, a Los Angeles-based Bollywood and Bhangra group, and the SA Dance Company, led by Payal Kadakia Pujji.
Broadway star Shoba Narayan, known for her role as Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin, hosted the event. Reflecting on the experience, she called it “unforgettable,” highlighting the inspiration drawn from young performers celebrating their heritage on such an iconic stage.
Proceeds from the festival were donated to the Make Me Stronger Foundation, which supports various charitable initiatives, including the National Marrow Donor Program. This organization tirelessly seeks matches for patients battling blood cancers, reinforcing the event’s message of community and compassion.
The Diwali Dance Fest not only celebrated cultural heritage but also spotlighted the importance of inclusivity, making it a magical and meaningful event for all who attended.
