According to the Times of India, Tesla has initiated talks with the Indian Government regarding an investment proposal to establish a car factory in India. The factory would have the capacity to manufacture up to 500,000 electric vehicles annually. The report also stated that the prices for these electric vehicles would begin at 2 million rupees ($24,400.66). At the time of reporting, Tesla had not provided a response to the request for comment.
The company, led by billionaire Elon Musk, is also considering India as a potential base for exporting cars to countries in the Indo-Pacific region, as per government sources mentioned in the report. During a recent meeting with Musk, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged Tesla to make a substantial investment in the country.
