Deepika Padukone has garnered widespread acclaim for her compelling performance in Kalki 2898 AD, particularly the powerful scene where her character Sumathi walks on fire. With the sequel now in progress, fans are eagerly awaiting her return. At the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Vyjayanthi Movies producers Priyanka Dutt and Swapna Dutt provided an exciting update, as reported by the Indian Express.
According to the producers, around 35% of the sequel has already been filmed, with the storyline shaping up strongly for an impactful follow-up. They emphasized that Kalki 2 is designed for a major international release. The Dutt sisters also confirmed that Deepika’s character will continue to play a significant role, particularly as a mother. This film marks a special milestone as it will be Deepika’s first project since giving birth to her daughter, Dua, in September.
In the first installment, directed by Nag Ashwin, Deepika portrayed a pregnant lab subject, SU-M80, who becomes a key figure in the sci-fi narrative infused with Indian mythology. The film, featuring Prabhas as the bounty hunter Bhairava and Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama, ends with an open-ended conclusion, setting the stage for the sequel. Currently streaming on Netflix, Kalki 2898 AD captivated audiences and left them eager for more.
Meanwhile, Deepika’s recent appearance was in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, released during Diwali. This latest addition to Shetty’s cop universe also features an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, and Tiger Shroff. Fans are now excited to see her reprise her role in Kalki 2, adding another milestone to her impressive filmography.
