One of the key commitments of the Ministry is to ensure an uninterrupted supply of coal. This commitment has been strongly upheld as the total coal stock position, encompassing mine reserves, TPPs (DCB), transit, etc., has surged to 88.01 million metric tonnes (MT) by August 23rd, 2023. This remarkable increase of 24.7% compared to the stock of 70.61 MT on August 23rd, 2023, underscores the Ministry’s dedication to maintaining an ample coal supply.
The Pithead Coal Stock at Coal India Limited (CIL) has experienced an impressive surge as well, reaching 46.13 MT on August 23rd, 2023. This marks a substantial 45.5% rise from the stock of 31.70 MT on August 23rd, 2023. This trend highlights the significance of effective inventory management and operational efficiency in the coal sector. Additionally, the cumulative achievement in coal dispatch to the power sector for 2023-24 stood at 307.97 MT by August 23rd, 2023. This commendable growth rate of 5.6% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year ensures a steady coal supply for meeting energy demands.
Notably, the cumulative coal production for 2023-24 has witnessed impressive growth, reaching 340.31 MT by August 23rd, 2023. This represents a notable 10.52% increase from the previous year’s production of 307.92 MT by the same date. The overall coal dispatch has also risen significantly, reaching 371.11 MT by August 23rd, 2023, demonstrating a commendable growth rate of 9.58% compared to the previous year’s export of 338.66 MT by the same date.
The Ministry of Coal remains dedicated to fostering long-term growth within the coal sector through strategic planning and effective implementation. These measures are pivotal in enhancing domestic coal production capacity and subsequently supporting the power industry to meet the nation’s burgeoning energy needs.
