On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, marking her first meeting with the Prime Minister since taking office. The specific agenda of their discussion has not yet been disclosed.
This meeting occurs amidst a backdrop of tension between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which currently governs Delhi, and Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena, particularly regarding the allotment of the Chief Minister’s official residence.
The controversy over the bungalow located on Flagstaff Road continues to escalate, with the LG’s office accusing the AAP of engaging in “devious and diabolic” tactics to mislead the public regarding the allotment process. The statement issued by the LG’s office claims that the AAP has subverted norms and hidden crucial facts concerning the bungalow’s transfer, which was previously occupied by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for nine years.
The LG’s office alleges that within just 48 hours of Kejriwal vacating the residence and its subsequent allotment to Atishi, the AAP and its ministers attempted to mislead both the people of Delhi and the nation by distorting facts and continuously attacking the LG’s integrity.
In response, sources from the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office expressed disappointment at the LG’s statement, describing it as filled with unfounded accusations against the elected government. They emphasized that the AAP government is diligently working to address and revive projects halted by the LG in recent months, dismissing the LG’s remarks as unworthy of further comment.
The Secretariat noted that the LG has been subject to political attacks, suggesting that these disputes are part of a broader political strategy rather than genuine concerns over governance.
