Indian-American politician Vivek Ramaswamy has officially announced his candidacy for governor of Ohio, unveiling a bold plan to standardize civic education across the state. As part of his vision, he proposes that all Ohio high school seniors must pass the same civics test required for legal immigrants to gain U.S. citizenship. He believes this initiative will deepen students’ understanding of American history and values, instilling pride and patriotism.
“We must teach young Americans to take pride in their country and state rather than feeling ashamed,” Ramaswamy stated. “They should know what it means to be American and recite the pledge of allegiance. You can’t respect a nation if you don’t even understand its basics.”
At 39, Ramaswamy first gained recognition for his sharp criticism of liberal corporate policies. He previously ran for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination but exited the race after securing fourth place in the Iowa caucuses. Since then, he has become a staunch supporter of Donald Trump and his policies.
Announcing his campaign, Ramaswamy declared, “It is an honor to run for governor of Ohio, and I am eager to serve this great state.” He also pledged to position Ohio as a leader in a new “second industrial revolution” aimed at revitalizing American industry.
On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump publicly endorsed Ramaswamy, posting on Truth Social: “Vivek Ramaswamy is running for governor of Ohio. I know him well—he is young, strong, and smart. He will make a fantastic governor and has my full endorsement!”
Tech billionaire Elon Musk also expressed his support on X, writing, “Good luck, you have my full endorsement!” Ramaswamy responded with enthusiasm, saying, “Thank you, Elon. Let’s roll!”
Despite once being a competitor in the GOP presidential primaries, Ramaswamy later aligned himself with Trump’s campaign. While he was reportedly considered for a government position overseeing DOGE alongside Musk, he ultimately chose to focus on his Ohio governor bid instead.
