Authorities in Uttarakhand have opened the registration process for the Char Dham Yatra 2026, enabling pilgrims to begin preparations for one of India’s most significant religious journeys. Devotees planning to undertake the pilgrimage can now register through the official government website or by using the designated mobile application developed for the yatra.
The Char Dham Yatra includes visits to four revered Hindu temples located in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. These sacred shrines are Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. Every year, millions of devotees travel to these high-altitude temples as part of the traditional pilgrimage believed to hold immense spiritual importance. To better manage the increasing number of visitors and to ensure the safety of pilgrims, the state government has made registration compulsory for all travelers participating in the yatra.
Pilgrims opting for the online registration system must first create an account on the official Char Dham portal or the mobile application using their mobile number. Once the account is created, applicants need to fill in essential personal information including their name, identity proof details, and intended travel schedule. Devotees can then choose the temples they wish to visit and submit the registration form. After completing the process, a confirmation slip can be downloaded, which serves as proof of registration. Authorities have advised pilgrims to carry both the confirmation slip and valid identification documents throughout their journey.
For those who may not be able to complete the registration online, the Uttarakhand government will also introduce offline registration facilities before the pilgrimage season begins. Special counters will be established at important entry points and transit cities including Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun. At these locations, pilgrims can complete the registration process by submitting identification documents and basic travel details.
The Char Dham Yatra 2026 will officially begin on April nineteen on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. On that day, the gates of Gangotri Temple and Yamunotri Temple will open for devotees. Kedarnath Temple is scheduled to open on April twenty two, followed by Badrinath Temple on April twenty three.
Registration for the pilgrimage is currently free of cost. However, pilgrims may still incur expenses related to accommodation, transportation, and other services during the journey. For those travelling to Kedarnath, helicopter services will also be available, particularly benefiting elderly devotees or travelers with limited time. Ticket prices depend on the operator and travel route, and booking options are typically released closer to the pilgrimage season.
The Char Dham Yatra continues to draw millions of devotees annually and remains one of the most spiritually significant pilgrimages in India.
