The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has committed to elevating India into a prominent global manufacturing center, focusing on enhancing employment opportunities in key sectors like electronics, defense, mobile, and automotive. The goal is to harness these sectors’ potential to position India as a significant manufacturing destination by integrating design services with production.
By 2030, the BJP aims to position India as a global hub for electronics manufacturing, aiming to triple electronics output to become a pivotal player in the global value chain. This strategy intends to capitalize on India’s design capabilities to foster indigenous brands and strengthen its position in the global market.
Moreover, there’s a concerted effort to expand domestic defense manufacturing, with a particular emphasis on increasing exports of ‘Made in Bharat’ defense equipment by advancing indigenization in crucial air and land equipment platforms. The BJP’s manifesto underscores the role of manufacturing in generating employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth.
Initiatives such as Make in India and production-linked incentive schemes launched since 2014 aim to not only position India as a global manufacturing powerhouse but also to elevate the manufacturing sector’s contribution to the GDP to 25 percent. Additionally, there are plans to enhance India’s standing as the ‘Pharmacy of the World’ by strengthening the manufacturing and research capacities of the pharmaceutical sector, particularly in active pharmaceutical ingredients.
The BJP intends to expand research-linked incentive schemes to encourage companies to invest in research for new drugs, chemical entities, and biological entities. With a thriving $100 billion electronics manufacturing industry, the party seeks to deepen the component ecosystem and elevate semiconductor design and manufacturing to establish global leadership in chip production.
Furthermore, the party aims to bolster the automotive industry’s growth and transition to electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing. This includes investment in establishing a nationwide EV charger infrastructure to facilitate widespread EV adoption.
