A parliamentary delegation from India, led by BJP Member of Parliament Daggubati Purandeswari, held an interactive session with around 120 Indian-American community leaders in New York. The event aimed to reinforce the growing partnership between India and the United States, highlighting the diaspora’s key contribution to India’s global progress.
Hosted by the Consulate General of India in New York, the meeting emphasized the importance of the Indian-American community in advancing India’s vision for a Developed India 2047. The delegation praised the diaspora for their active role in strengthening bilateral ties and representing India’s achievements in technology, economy, and innovation.
Anil Beephan, a member of the New York State Assembly, also participated in the event and addressed attendees, commending the Indian community’s efforts in fostering cross-cultural and political engagement.
The diverse delegation included BJP MPs Rekha Sharma, Dilip Saikia, Bhola Singh, and Saumitra Khan; AAP MP Sandeep Pathak; DMK MPs P. Wilson and Thamizhachi Thangapandian; Tamil Maanila Congress MP G.K. Vasan; Trinamool Congress MP Sajda Ahmed; Sikkim Krantikari Morcha MP Indra Hang Subba; and UPPL MP Joyanta Basumatary.
During their visit to the United Nations, the delegation represented India in various General Assembly sessions, held talks with diplomats, and presented India’s stance on key international issues. They also met Alexander Zouev, Acting Under-Secretary-General of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), to reaffirm India’s collaboration in combating terrorism and discuss ways to expand joint initiatives.
In another high-level engagement, the delegation met Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant Secretary-General of the UN and UNDP’s Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific. Discussions focused on strengthening India’s partnership with the UNDP to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, marking 100 years of independence.
The visit underscored India’s growing diplomatic engagement, with representatives from multiple political parties coming together to promote shared national goals on the global stage.
