The latest trends suggest that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to make a significant impact in the Odisha state assembly elections, with the party leading in a substantial number of seats. As per the current trends, the BJP is ahead in 77 out of 145 seats, while the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is leading in 53 seats. The Congress party is trailing behind, with only 12 seats under its control.
If the current trends continue, the BJP may form the next government in Odisha, bringing an end to Naveen Patnaik’s 24-year rule in the state. Patnaik, who was seeking a record fifth term as chief minister, appears to have lost his grip on the state. The BJP’s success is likely to be a significant blow to Patnaik’s leadership, as he is trailing in one of the seats he is contesting.
The BJP’s dominance is not limited to the state assembly elections. In the Lok Sabha elections, the party has also made significant gains, taking a lead on 18 out of 21 seats. The BJD, which had won 12 seats in 2019, is ahead on only 2 seats this time around, while the Congress party is leading on just 1 seat. The BJP’s success in both elections suggests that the party is gaining momentum in Odisha. In the state assembly elections, key BJP leaders such as Manmohan Samal, who is contesting from Chandabali, are leading their BJD opponents. Meanwhile, Congress leader Sarat Pattanayak is trailing behind BJD’s Rajendra Dholakia in Nuapada.
