Bikash Pal, of Indian origin, stands among five professors from Imperial College London who have gained election as fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering. These recent additions increase the count of Imperial Fellows to 109, spread across 12 departments.
Within Imperial’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Pal serves as a professor specializing in power systems. His pioneering work delves into power system stability, control, and computation. Presently, he leads a UK-China research consortium, ROSES, focused on sustainable energy networks.
Pal enjoys international recognition for his innovations and engineering contributions in enhancing the stability and control of power networks incorporating renewable generation. Notably, Siemens, GE Grid Solutions, and others have adopted his research, analyses, and solutions.
Through collaboration with Siemens, Pal has developed an advanced module for a distribution management system solution. This solution has found application in distribution control centers across several countries, including Colombia, Bosnia, Norway, and Azerbaijan, benefiting approximately 15 million customers.
Furthermore, Pal has played a key role in establishing and overseeing the MSc course in Future Power Networks at Imperial College London. His expertise has also led to visiting professorships in Denmark, Germany, and China.
