On September 21, President Joe Biden is set to host the fourth in-person Quad Leaders Summit in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. This will be the first time as president that Biden welcomes foreign leaders to his birthplace. He will be joined by Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre expressed that Biden is eager to receive the prime ministers, reflecting the significance of the Quad partnership to all the nations involved.
According to Jean-Pierre, the Biden-Harris administration has placed a high priority on strengthening the Quad alliance. She noted that hosting these leaders in Wilmington symbolises Biden’s personal connections with each of them and highlights the crucial role the Quad plays in the countries’ strategic collaboration. The summit will centre on enhancing the cooperation among these nations, particularly in advancing their mutual goal of ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Key topics on the agenda include health security, disaster response, maritime safety, critical infrastructure, clean energy, and cybersecurity. The White House emphasised that this meeting would further solidify the strategic partnership between the Quad members and aim to deliver practical benefits to the Indo-Pacific region.
This summit follows the inaugural Quad Leaders Summit, which took place at the White House in 2021. As this collaboration continues to evolve, India is gearing up to host the next Quad meeting, ensuring that the nations maintain their strong and growing alliance. Jean-Pierre reiterated that this gathering reflects not only the importance of the Quad but also Biden’s personal relationships with the other leaders.
