The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a massive $6.1 million reward for India’s women’s cricket team, their coaches, and the support staff after their sensational ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory. The announcement came shortly after India’s historic 52-run win over South Africa at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, a triumph that sent the entire nation into celebration.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saika applauded ICC Chairman Jay Shah for his unwavering support toward women’s cricket, crediting his leadership for major reforms within the sport. “Since Jay Shah took charge of the BCCI, he has transformed the women’s game. From introducing pay parity to increasing global recognition, his contributions have been monumental,” Saika said. He further highlighted that Shah’s recent move to raise women’s prize money by 300 percent—from $2.88 million to $14 million—has reshaped the financial landscape of women’s cricket worldwide.
Saika also praised India’s women for their grit, calling the World Cup victory a defining moment in cricket history. “Just as Kapil Dev’s 1983 win ignited a revolution in Indian cricket, this victory by Harmanpreet Kaur and her team has reignited national pride. They haven’t just lifted the trophy; they’ve captured the hearts of millions and inspired young girls across the country,” he added. Saika emphasized that the semifinal victory over Australia had already marked a turning point, but the World Cup crown elevated Indian women’s cricket to its highest point yet.
In addition to BCCI’s generous reward, the International Cricket Council (ICC) will award India a prize of $4.48 million for clinching the title. This comes from the total World Cup prize pool of $13.88 million — the largest in the tournament’s history, reflecting a nearly 297 percent increase from the previous edition.
The BCCI’s announcement underscores not only a financial milestone but also a cultural one. It celebrates the emergence of Indian women’s cricket as a dominant force on the global stage and signals a future filled with promise, recognition, and equality for the sport’s rising stars.
