Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama have thrown their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris in her run for the presidency. On Friday, Barack Obama shared their endorsement on Twitter, writing, “Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend Kamala Harris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic president of the United States and that she has our full support. In this crucial time for our nation, we will do everything possible to ensure she secures a victory in November. We hope you’ll join us.” He also posted a video of their conversation.
During the call, the Obamas reassured Harris that they would “do everything” to help her secure a victory in the upcoming US elections and reach the Oval Office. Michelle Obama expressed her pride, telling Harris, “I am proud of you. This is going to be historic.” In response, Harris expressed her deep gratitude to Michelle and Barack Obama, stating that their support and friendship over the years meant more to her than she could express. She shared her excitement about working with them and noted that they would have fun throughout the campaign.
The Obamas’ endorsement comes after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race amid concerns about his viability. Harris has already garnered support from a significant number of Congressional Democrats and Governors. Those backing her include notable figures such as Gavin Newsom of California, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Andy Beshear of Kentucky, and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan.
