Gathering more than 200 leaders and community members from various faiths and backgrounds during the holy month of Ramzan, the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi hosted a special interfaith cultural event named ‘Omsiyyat’. Against the backdrop of the newly inaugurated Hindu temple, the occasion served as a platform for fostering dialogue and celebrating diversity.
Dignitaries such as Sheikh Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, along with Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development, graced the event with their presence on April 2. Additionally, leaders from local religious communities, including Rabbi Jeff Berger and Father Lalji, also attended, signifying a spirit of inclusivity.
Rabbi Jeff Berger expressed his appreciation for the event, highlighting its significance in promoting understanding and respect among different faiths. Sheikh Nahayan commended the BAPS Hindu Mandir for its efforts in fostering unity and harmony amidst global challenges, emphasizing the importance of collaboration across cultural and spiritual boundaries.
The event also featured insights from Swami Brahmaviharidas, Head of the BAPS Hindu Mandir, who reiterated the message of love, peace, and harmony advocated by Mahant Swami Maharaj. Swami Brahmaviharidas expressed gratitude towards the leadership of Abu Dhabi and the UAE for their support, echoing sentiments of harmony and goodwill.
The evening concluded with a vegetarian ‘suhoor’ meal, prepared by temple volunteers, which was enjoyed by Sheikh Nahyan and other attendees, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. Overall, ‘Omsiyyat: An Interfaith Cultural Evening’ left a lasting impression, underscoring the importance of interfaith harmony in both local and global contexts.
