The Assam Government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Northern Frontier Railway to transfer the land of the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) in Paltanbazar, Guwahati to the Railway Authority. This transfer will facilitate the construction of a second entry point to the Guwahati Railway Station.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who highlighted the impressive annual growth rate of the railways, reaching 15-20 percent, with an annual footfall of 1 crore passengers.
CM Sarma took to Twitter to announce the development, stating, “To enhance passenger convenience and develop a world-class railway terminal, we have signed an MoU with NF Railway for the transfer of ASTC’s premises to the Railways.”
The project, estimated to cost Rs 700 crore, aims to build a state-of-the-art bus station and a world-class railway station in Guwahati.
