Ashwin Ramaswami, an Indian American software engineer with experience in election security and technology law and policy research, is running for the Georgia State Senate to represent District 48. If successful, he would be the first Indian American and Gen Z member in the Georgia State Senate, holding degrees in computer science and law. Ramaswami, a Democrat, announced his candidacy after the indictment of the Republican incumbent, Senator Shawn Still, for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results. Advocating for lower costs, increased economic opportunities, expanded healthcare access, and the defense of democratic institutions, Ramaswami emphasized his commitment to the community. Born and raised in Johns Creek, GA, Ramaswami has a diverse background in nonprofits, religious communities, tech startups, and law and policy. With a career spanning software engineering, election security, and technology law and policy research, he aims to make transformative investments in Georgia, leveraging the state’s $10.7 billion surplus. Ramaswami, a Georgia Tech and Stanford University alum, established and managed a cybersecurity program for election officials at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). He also taught Hindu philosophy and culture at Chinmaya Mission and founded the Dharmic Law Student Organization at Georgetown. Ramaswami envisions advocating for the future of the community through his multifaceted experiences and expertise.
