Renowned composer AR Rahman has created a 30-minute performance video to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, expected to significantly enhance her presidential campaign as the November 5 elections approach. At 57, Rahman is the first major international artist from South Asia to back Harris, who has Indian and African heritage.
Shekar Narasimhan, the chairman of the AAPI Victory Fund, stated, “With this performance, A R Rahman has joined a group of leaders and artists advocating for progress and representation in America.” He emphasized that this initiative goes beyond music, serving as a rallying cry for communities to become engaged and vote for a brighter future.
The endorsement highlights the critical influence of AAPI voters in this election, alongside the increasing support for the Harris-Walz ticket. The performance will premiere on the AAPI Victory Fund’s YouTube channel and will also be showcased on major South Asian media platforms, such as AVS and TV Asia, as part of a targeted effort to mobilize support for Harris among South Asian voters globally. The broadcast is scheduled for October 13 at 8 PM ET.
This exclusive show will feature some of Rahman’s cherished songs, woven with messages that underscore Harris’s groundbreaking candidacy and her dedication to the AAPI community, according to a media release. Additionally, a teaser video has been shared on YouTube, showcasing AR Rahman alongside MR Rangaswami, the founder of Indiaspora, as they prepare for the impactful performance.
