Renowned sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar has once again made India proud, earning two Grammy nominations at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, adding to her already impressive list of accolades. The British-Indian artist, who has been nominated 11 times in the past, now celebrates her 12th and 13th nominations, solidifying her legacy as one of the most respected names in global music.
Her soulful single “Daybreak” earned a nomination for Best Global Music Performance, while her latest album “Chapter III: We Return to Light” — created in collaboration with Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar — received a nod for Best Global Music Album. The project reflects a deeply meditative yet modern interpretation of classical sounds, blending Indian roots with global influences.
Reacting to the news, Shankar shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, humorously noting that her day was “a mix of a terrible migraine and incredible joy.” She expressed immense gratitude for the recognition and appreciation for her collaborators, writing, “To be nominated alongside the incredible Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar, with whom I made this music, makes it all the sweeter.”
The announcement sparked widespread celebration among fans and peers. Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas took to her Instagram Story, praising Shankar’s achievement with the caption, “Just queen energy. Congratulations.”
Other Indian-origin artists also made their mark this year. Composer Siddhant Bhatia received a nomination for Sounds of Kumbha, a 12-track album that merges devotional sounds with modern soundscapes. Meanwhile, Indo-American jazz pianist Charu Suri earned a nod for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album with her work Shayan.
The 2026 Grammy Awards are scheduled for February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast live on CBS as well as streamed on Paramount+. With India’s growing presence in the global music scene, Anoushka Shankar’s latest recognition reaffirms her role as a cultural bridge between East and West — where classical artistry meets contemporary expression.
