Business magnate Anand Mahindra recently expressed admiration for Tara Prasad, India’s top figure skater. Taking to X on Tuesday, Mahindra commended her remarkable achievements, sharing a video of her in action on the ice and celebrating her contributions to Indian sports.
Tara, who switched from U.S. to Indian citizenship in 2019, has since claimed the national champion title three times. “Well done, Tara. I hope you lead the way for more Indian athletes in winter sports. I know you just missed qualifying for the last Winter Olympics, but we’re all cheering for you in 2026. Go chase that dream,” Mahindra wrote.
Who is Tara Prasad?
Born on February 24, 2000, Tara Prasad is an Indian-American figure skater who represents India in women’s singles events. She has earned global recognition, securing silver medals at both the 2024 Reykjavik International and the 2024 Skate Celje competitions. She has also won India’s national championship three times—in 2022, 2023, and 2025.
Tara started figure skating at the age of seven in Cedar Rapids. Initially competing for the United States at lower levels, she transitioned to representing India internationally in 2020, debuting at the Mentor Toruń Cup.
At the 2022 Four Continents Championships, she finished 20th. Her 2022–2023 season was challenging due to multiple injuries, including two ankle sprains and a back issue, keeping her off the ice for four months. Despite this, she made a strong comeback, securing 14th place at the 2023 Four Continents Championships.
Her breakthrough came in January 2024 at the Reykjavik International Games, where she won the short program and finished third in the free skate, ultimately earning a silver medal—India’s first-ever senior international medal in figure skating. However, she had to withdraw from the 2024 Four Continents Championships due to health concerns related to low blood pressure.
In 2025, Tara claimed her third national title and finished 16th at the Four Continents Championships, continuing her pursuit of international success. With her eyes set on the 2026 Winter Olympics, she remains a beacon of hope for Indian winter sports.
